Autumn Walks in Derbyshire
It’s official - Autumn is here, and it’s glorious. The mornings feel bright - but there’s a cooler and calmer feel in the air. What better way to embrace all that September has to offer than enjoying some local walks in Derbyshire.
We have pulled together some of our favourites, with varying difficulty levels taking us from Chatsworth to Edale:
Kinder Scout
Difficulty rating: Hard
This walk has a bit of everything, and a detailed description can be found here. The walk starts with a rocky climb up to the Kinder plateau, but the views are totally worth it, and this marks the highest point of the Peaks. The walk finishes with a descent down Jacob’s Ladder and ends at Edale - the perfect place for a drink and a well earned meal. For food recommendations, look no further than here.
Monsal Trail
Difficulty rating: Easy
Monsal trail runs along the former Midland Railway line between Blackwell Mill in Chee Dale and Coombs Road, at Bakewell and includes four impressive railway tunnels, which have all been impressively lit. The route is 8.5 miles in total and benefits from no traffic - perfect for walking or cycling!
Tansley Circular
Difficulty Rating: Moderate
This walk takes us to the edge of the Peak District and passes through the popular town of Matlock, with its many shops and cafés. This walk showcases some of the best bits the Peaks have to offer, such as views of the Derwent Valley.
Chatsworth Walks
Difficulty rating: mixed but ideal for a slower pace
As well as the historic country house, Chatsworth is also well known for the selection of walks it has to offer, and their website includes some great ones here. There are acres of woodland and beautiful lakes to explore, and with the house at the backdrop, Chatsworth is iconic for a reason. It’s a great place to visit with children due to the vast parkland and space on offer.
