The Location

The historic market town of
Bolsover.

It’s a place where history is part of the everyday, and everything you need is close by.

With roots stretching back almost 800 years, this historic market town blends timeless character with modern living. From the striking Bolsover Castle overlooking the town to its proud industrial past, history is part of daily life here, but it’s far from stuck in it.

Set in the north-east of Derbyshire, Bolsover is surrounded by open countryside, with the Peak District National Park and Sherwood Forest both within easy reach. It’s a setting that offers space to breathe, with access to local walking trails and cycling routes, and a range of nearby landmarks including Hardwick Hall and Creswell Crags.

Sherwood Fields was ideally located just off Oxcroft Lane, within walking distance of the town centre, putting everyday essentials, local shops and cafés within easy reach.

Amenities

Bolsover town centre offered a mix of independent shops, cafés, supermarkets and everyday services. Its market town heritage still shapes how it functions today, creating a close-knit community feel rooted in everyday life.

Looking ahead, 2025 marked a significant year for Bolsover, with regeneration projects transforming the town centre. Improvements to public spaces and shopfronts are helping to create a more attractive, welcoming environment for residents. The development of new creative and community hubs was designed to bring more activity and energy into the area.

Schools

Families had access to local schooling close to home, including New Bolsover Primary and Nursery School for younger children and The Bolsover School for secondary education. Both are based in Bolsover itself, which made them convenient options for families living at Sherwood Fields.

Plans for a new sixth form college will further strengthen education opportunities within the town. Additional schools can be found in surrounding areas such as Clowne, Shirebrook and Chesterfield.

Transport

Bolsover offered strong connections across the region while maintaining a quieter, rural feel. Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham were all within easy reach, with the M1 and A38 supporting straightforward travel. Rail connections from nearby Shirebrook and access to major airports (including East Midlands, Manchester and Leeds Bradford)  made longer journeys accessible.
