Final Bungalow Remaining at Chestnut Grove

Recent research into home buyer trends has found that over two thirds of over 65s would consider moving into a bungalow. Our experience at Chestnut Grove in Shireoaks, Nottinghamshire certainly supports this finding on demand.

Before many of the bungalows on this development of new homes even came on the market, all but one (to date) have been snapped up by buyers who have been looking for a modern, new build bungalow for some time.

We’ve highlighted previously how undersupplied we believe this type of home is in the market. Shireoaks is located in the district of Bassetlaw, which much like the rest of the UK, has an increasingly ageing population. A recent report by Bassetlaw District Council’s highlighted that “population projections point to an ageing population in the area, which is expected to lead to increased under-occupation of existing housing stock, unless suitable, high quality smaller homes are available for those residents wishing to downsize.”

With this shift in the UK’s demographics, demand for single-storey homes is especially high, and shows no sign of slowing up and yet. A stylish bungalow on the market is such a rare beast, for a very obvious reason: the number of potential buyers in increasing, while supply is declining because mainstream developers tend not to build them.

At Stancliffe Homes, we have always looked to provide a high percentage of bungalows on every development we work on. We are currently delivering bungalows in Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire and have plans to deliver more of these homes on upcoming developments across the midlands.
