Energy Saving Tips

When Martin Lewis tells us that not even he can help us, you know it is time to be a little concerned!

New homes are known for being more energy efficient than their older counterparts. With better insulation and more efficient heating systems, they’re generally cheaper to run too. Here at Stancliffe, a huge amount of time goes in to the fabric of our homes, and considering the less visible features like insulation, glazing, air flow and others to make the home highly efficient to run, without taking anything away from the character and flawless finishes. This means all of our homes, whether a 2 bed starter or a 5 bedroom executive home, all score highly on their energy ratings.

However, even when you do own in a highly energy efficient new home, with energy prices soaring it can still be beneficial to save energy where possible. Here are some of our top tips for simple energy saving measures:

  1. Turn the thermostat down –

Whilst it may seem fairly obvious, turning the thermostat down by just one degree can save you £100 a year.

  2. Monitor your smart meter –

All of our homes come with smart energy meters as standard. By tracking which appliances use the most power, you can adapt your usage to make sure old habits aren’t costing you more than they need to.

  3. Cut down on laundry –

Just one less wash a week can save you about £25 annually between the energy and water savings. Cut the temperature and washing at 30 degrees will save you even more. So try your best to avoid half loads and cut that temperature where you can.

  4. Rapid showers –

Long, warm showers are pretty tempting through the winter, and getting out of them can be difficult! However, as we are now entering spring, just cutting that shower time by even one minute can save the household £40 per year.
